  • Size / weight: approx. 191 × 141 × 119 mm; ~1.62 kg (K3S)

How Installers Use It (Quick Workflow)

  1. Prep: Strip, clean, and cleave both fibers; verify clean end-faces.

  2. Load & align: Place fibers in the V-grooves; the K3S auto-focuses and core-aligns.

  3. Splice & protect: Start splice (~8 s), then heat the sleeve (~18 s).

  4. Verify: Use the built-in VFL for continuity and the OPM (with a stabilized light source) to confirm levels or set a reference.

  5. Document: Save splice images/records for job closeout.

Installer Tips

  • For patch panels, splice factory-polished pigtails (LC/SC) to your field fiber for fast, consistent terminations.

  • Always set a reference when performing OPM loss tests (use a known-good short patch with a stabilized light source).

  • Use a launch cable with an OTDR to see the first connector; add a receive tail to see the last connector without moving to the far end.

  • Keep V-grooves, lenses, and electrodes clean; perform electrode correction if environment or altitude changes cause higher loss.

Example Use Case

A Phoenix contractor turns up new singlemode drops between buildings. After prepping and cleaving, they run automatic core-alignment splices on the K3S, apply 40 mm sleeves, and tray the splices. They confirm continuity with the VFL, establish an insertion-loss reference with OPM + light source, and finish with an OTDR test using a launch cable at the near end. Splice data and images from the K3S are stored for the closeout report.
